I offer in-person and online appointments (including online appointments in over 40 states – see info below)
I am a licensed psychologist (FLPY5599) and have been in private practice since 2000. Before that I worked in university settings for several years. Throughout my career, I have conducted therapy with a broad range of clients with a wide range of issues. While the approach I take varies depending on each individual’s circumstance, in all of my work, I am strongly influenced by internal family systems, somatic, interpersonal/psychodynamic, and feminist thinking.
My goals in therapy center around helping you identify and explore what factors – both internal and external – are preventing you from living your life with purpose, meaning, and connection. I will work with you to identify how you have coped in other contexts that may or may not be working presently. One of my primary goals will be to empower you by helping you become aware of contextual, relational, and personal factors that have influenced you so that you can free yourself to make different choices.
Any journey of personal healing happens within the context of cultural, religious, gender, and racial oppression. In my therapy with individuals, I work with you to recognize and validate these contexts and their impact on you.
I see therapy as a partnership in which we both have a responsibility. I am responsible for creating a safe, confidential, and open environment, and for bringing my professional experience and expertise to share with you. You are responsible for being open and honest and for bringing your personal experience and expertise to share with me.
Choosing a therapist is a very important and personal decision. I suggest that you keep two things in mind while making this decision:
Expertise – the practitioner has training and experience in the area for which you are seeking help.
Interpersonal fit – whether, after your first phone conversation or visit, you feel you can connect with the therapist and talk freely about your concerns.
