Clinical Approach and Philosophy
I seek to approach each person as an individual made up of their own unique combination of biological, psychological, social, and spiritual components. Working as a team, I try very hard to get into my clients’ shoes to see the world as they experience it. My clinical approach is flexible and eclectic, whereby I use a variety of proven faith-based and psychological strategies and techniques depending upon the nature of the problem, and the individual’s characteristics, personality, and circumstances. While the problems people face are very serious, I feel humor and light-heartedness are necessities in the resolution of these problems!
The primary goal of my professional work is to serve God as part of His great healing ministry by helping individuals to become who God created them to be. I feel very strongly that God’s Spirit is present and very active in the therapeutic process, and symbolically, I always leave an empty chair in my office for Him.[Please note, I respect all beliefs and religions, as well as the right to not believe, and spirituality does not have to be a part of one’s treatment].
Training and Experience
Originally from the northeast, I came south to Florida to earn my Ph.D. in Clinical Health Psychology from the University of Miami, and I completed my internship and residency at the University of Florida (Go Gators!).
I am a member and supporter of several professional and community organizations. In addition, I am an active steward at my church, a past two-time President and Executive Board Member of the North Central Florida Psychological Association, and a Board Certified Professional Christian Counselor within the International Board of Christian Counselors.
