HAILE MARKET THERAPY & BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE

Michelle Bishop, PhD

I received my masters and doctoral degrees in Clinical Health Psychology from the University of Kansas in 1998, with an emphasis in Psycho-oncology -- the study and practice of the psychosocial aspects of cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. I completed my internship and post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Florida (UF), Department of Clinical & Health Psychology, and Department of Medicine, respectively.

For 11 years, I was a Research Assistant Professor at UF’s Division of Hematology/Oncology, doing research to better understand the impact of cancer and cancer survivorship on the quality of life of survivors and family caregivers. I also developed and tested interventions for family caregivers to maximize their coping, resilience, and self-care in the face of their loved-one's cancer.

Several years ago I began to devote more and more of my time to the direct care of patients and family members, helping them to maximize the quality of their lives. I now enjoy an exclusive emphasis on direct patient care through my private practice and continue my affiliation with the University of Florida as a courtesy professor.
